Animal Care Team

Our Animal Care Team is designed to support the daily care of the animals at Humane Society of Boulder Valley. Volunteers in this program provide care for shelter dogs through kennel cleaning and other cleaning tasks. This role is physically demanding. Age Requirement: You must be at least 15 years old to volunteer with the Animal Care Team.
Commitment: The Animal Care Team does not require a long-term commitment.
Training: Volunteers receive on the job training with Animal Care Team staff members.
Scheduling: Shifts are available seven days a week: Monday-Friday shifts from 8:30am-12:30pm and 1pm-3pm, and Saturdays & Sundays from 7:30am-11:30am and 1pm-3pm. Shifts will be scheduled with our Animal Care Team staff members.

Cat Kennel Assistant Volunteers

Cat Kennel Assistants enrich the lives of the cats in our adoption center! As a Cat Kennel Assistant, you will aide in maintaining a comfortable and sanitary kennel environment to reduce disease and stress, and provide enrichment and socialization for the cats. Age Requirement: You must be at least 15 years old to volunteer independently, and volunteers between the ages of 7 and 14 must be accompanied by an adult as part of a Pets and Pals Team.
Commitment: This is a summer seasonal role, ending in September. You must be able to commit to a regular shift of two hours weekly through the end of September.
Training: You must be able to attend a two-hour Cat Handling Training on Wednesday, June 5th. This will be followed by an additional two-hour Shelter Hands-On Training at a later date.
Scheduling: You must be able to volunteer during one of our currently available shifts. See below for a list of shifts that are available:

  • Sundays: 3-5pm
  • Mondays: 11am-1pm
  • Tuesdays: 3-5pm
  • Fridays: 11am-1pm, or 3-5pm
  • Saturdays: 3-5pm

**Please note, shifts are filled on a first come, first served basis, and we cannot guarantee a shift’s availability.**

Dog Kennel Assistant Volunteers

Dog Kennel Assistants enrich the lives of the dogs in our adoption center! As a Dog Kennel Assistant, you will aide in maintaining a sanitary kennel environment to reduce disease and stress, and provide exercise and socialization for the dogs. Age Requirement: You must be at least 15 years old to volunteer independently, and volunteers between the ages of 7 and 14 must be accompanied by an adult as part of a Pets and Pals Team.
Commitment: You must be able to commit to a regular shift of two hours, weekly, for six months.
Training: You must be able to attend a two-hour Dog Handling Training on either Monday, June 3rd from 5-7pm or Friday, June 7th from 5-7pm. This will be followed by an additional two-hour Shelter Hands-On Training at a later date.
Scheduling: You must be able to volunteer during one of our currently available shifts. See below for a list of shifts that are available:

  • Mondays: 8-10am
  • Thursdays: 8-10am, or 3-5pm
  • Fridays: 8-10am, 10am-12pm, or 3-5pm

Facilities Volunteers

Facilities volunteers support the work of our Facilities Manager to keep HSBV’s property, building, and everything inside it functioning and in good condition. Volunteers should have some sort of maintenance experience, enjoy manual projects, and be comfortable working independently or in a small group. Age Requirement: You must be at least 18 years old to volunteer with Facilities.
Commitment: Weekly, or according to assignment.
Training: Orientation and safety training provided by the Facilities Manager after acceptance into the volunteer program.
Scheduling: Shift days and times will be determined directly with the Facilities Manager. Weekend shifts are not available at this time.

Please note, the Humane Society of Boulder Valley requires background checks of all volunteers who are 18 years of age or older. As part of the volunteer application process, we require a volunteer fee to help offset the costs of administrative processing, background check fees and other costs that leave a footprint in our finances so more can go toward animal care.
