Maylis Casassa Bastres, KPA CTP

Dog Trainer

Originally from Chile, Maylis graduated from the Universidad Austral de Chile as a veterinarian. In 2021, she graduated from Karen Pryor Academy’s Dog Trainer Professional program, earning her KPA CTP credentials. She then joined the Humane Society of Boulder Valley’s training and behavior team later that same year. In 2024, Maylis received a certification from her enrollment in Dr. Susan G. Friedman’s “How Behavior Works: Living & Learning with Animals” course.

Maylis has loved animals for her entire life, a passion that was inspired by her grandpa and her mom. In Chile, she owned and operated a pet hotel for seven years where she worked to train dogs and their guardians. She has participated in different dog sports and areas of focus such as agility, mushing, therapy, and herding, and she has volunteered at various dog shelters. Currently, she is volunteering as a puppy raiser for Freedom Service Dogs of America.

Maylis is committed to force-free, science-based training techniques, and she is passionate about helping pet guardians deepen their bond with their dogs. She is very excited to have the opportunity to translate some of the Humane Society of Boulder Valley’s training materials into Spanish and to be able to offer training classes and support to the Spanish-speaking community.

She shares her home with her two lovely children, a border collie name Flug and service-puppies-in-training.
